Pakistan is a major destination for students and families visiting relatives, and for weddings and religious holidays. Because there are few or no non-stop flights from the US, choosing a good connection matters as much as the fare.
Pakistan at a glance
- Main gateways: Karachi (KHI), Lahore (LHE) and Islamabad (ISB).
- Busiest fare periods: June to August, Eid holidays, and December to early January.
- Often better-value periods: spring and early autumn outside the holidays.
- Climate: very hot in early summer, with monsoon rains from about July to September that can bring flooding.
When to fly
Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha follow the lunar calendar and move about eleven days earlier each year, so check them before booking. The winter, from about October to March, is the main wedding season and a popular time for family visits. Summer is hot, and the monsoon can disrupt roads and flights.
Routings and baggage
Common one-stop routes connect through the Gulf with Qatar Airways, Emirates or Etihad, through Istanbul with Turkish Airlines, or through London. Direct US–Pakistan flights have been discussed, but we could not confirm a scheduled service, so we confirm what is operating when we quote. Many fares include two checked bags of about 23 kg, but this varies by airline and fare.
Airports and getting around
Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad all handle international flights, and a domestic flight is often the best way between cities. Arrange an airport pickup through family or your host, and allow for heavy traffic.
How to pay less on flights to Pakistan
- Book around Eid and weddings. Fares rise from June to August, around Eid, and from December to early January, with the main wedding season from about October to March. Spring and early autumn outside the holidays are often better value.

- Check the baggage. Many fares include two checked bags of about 23 kg, but this varies by airline and fare.
- Allow for the monsoon. Rains from about July to September can bring flooding and disruption, so a cheaper summer fare needs a flexible plan.

Before you go
Check passport validity and Pakistan’s current visa rules through the official government portal for every traveler. Government travel advisories for Pakistan differ sharply by region, so read yours carefully and follow your host’s advice on where to go. See the CDC page for Pakistan. Book a travel clinic visit four to six weeks before departure, because some vaccine courses take time. Health notes reflect the CDC’s Travelers’ Health pages as last checked in October 2026, and notices change quickly.
