Abidjan is the hub for most travel to Côte d’Ivoire. Travelers from the US usually connect through Europe, North Africa or Addis Ababa.
Côte d’Ivoire at a glance
- Main gateway: Félix-Houphouët-Boigny International Airport (ABJ), Abidjan.
- Busiest fare periods: June to August, and December to early January.
- Often better-value periods: February to April, and September to November.
- Rainy seasons: about May to July, and October to November.
When to fly
The summer break and the Christmas and New Year holidays are the peaks. The dry season, roughly December to April, is the easiest for travel around the country.
Routings and baggage
Expect one stop. Common routings include Air France via Paris, Brussels Airlines via Brussels, Royal Air Maroc via Casablanca, Turkish Airlines via Istanbul and Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa. Many of these include two checked bags of about 23 kg in economy from the US, but check the exact fare.
Airports and getting around
Official airport taxis, and ride-hailing apps such as Yango and Uber, are common ways to reach Cocody, Plateau or Marcory. Confirm the fare or use the app before you get in, or arrange a pickup with family or your host.
Before you go
Check passport validity and Côte d’Ivoire’s current visa process, including any e-visa, through the official government portal before departure. Proof of yellow fever vaccination is required for most arriving travelers, and the CDC lists malaria risk throughout the country. Hepatitis A and typhoid vaccines are commonly recommended. See the CDC page for Côte d’Ivoire. Book a travel clinic visit four to six weeks before departure, because some vaccine courses take time. Health notes reflect the CDC’s Travelers’ Health pages as last checked in October 2026, and notices change quickly.
